Our fall overnight trip runs Tuesday, October 27 through Wednesday, October 28. This year we are heading to Cumberland, Maryland, staying at the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott in the heart of the historic district.
The route
We gather in Leesburg on Tuesday morning and run west to Winchester for lunch, then further west to Romney, West Virginia along some of the most MG-friendly roads in the region. From there we turn north into Cumberland, with luck arriving while the autumn leaves are at their peak.
On Wednesday we head back east through some genuinely breathtaking country, stop for lunch in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, and are back in the DC area by late afternoon.
The hotel
The Fairfield Inn & Suites is about an eight-minute walk from the historic train station, the C&O Canal museum, and a good stretch of restaurants and cafes. It has an indoor pool and a fitness center.
Our club rate is $169 per room, per night, excluding taxes and fees. The hotel’s normal rate is $229.
How to sign up
1. Book your room by Sunday, September 27. The hotel is holding our block of rooms until that date. Book one of two ways:
Online: book the MG Car Club group rate
By phone: call the hotel at (301) 722-0340 and tell them you are with the MG Car Club to get the discounted rate
2. Let Steve Boyce know you are coming, so he can plan for the group. E-mail
[email protected] or call (703) 346-2950.
Good to know
This is a rain-or-shine event. Only genuinely severe weather — a hurricane or a very early blizzard — would call it off.
The hotel accommodates pets for an additional fee.
If your MG is out of service, a daily driver is perfectly fine.
Ruth Arnold will host an impromptu happy hour in her room on Tuesday afternoon.
A longer write-up will appear in the October issue of The Spark. Questions in the meantime can go to Steve Boyce or to
[email protected].
